In terms of audience live comedy has exploded in recent years. Once performed mostly in working mens clubs, comedy clubs, and social clubs, comedians can now fill major venues and draw crowds of to 20,000 people per show. Television has contributed to this but it can never really replace the atmosphere of seeing your favourite comedian live - away from the censor, editor, restrictions of TV.
